When performing a 'launch' from a stand still or just accelerating quickly off the mark, the first gear seems to be significantly less power-driven than the rest of the gears. Im sure this is to be expected as it is the smallest gear and would be ideal for doing small, sharp movements with the throttle and making small movements of the car when in gear, but for more performance-based applications it is a hinderance and the power band isn't really met until the late-2000 rpm range in second gear, meaning that the first second or two is like a lurch forward with maximum power reached extremely quickly at about 9mph before a gear change is needed. Is there any way this can be changed using a gear with a different ratio and swapping it out or will this be a case of low torque on the engine's behalf or a weak clutch or ...?

Having just done a few launches now it must have been that I wasn't rev matching before the launch because it takes off extremely well. My only complaint now is that there's a noticeable gap in power between the first few gears: is this to be expected from a low torque car?
