I didn't like the offset of the axle so I put an adjustable one on. They're only about £80.

Is it hard to do ?
No not at all. The original one is usually seized on so needs lots of wd40 sprayed on the week prior to removing. Most just grind it off.

Over fifteen thousand wheels is quite a lot, maybe just limit yourself to four, that should give you all the clearance you need.
