Looks like its dead

Can I grab some opinions.

Car died at ace cafe and would not start, thought it was due to the fact that I parked it on a steep incline with the nose down.

Mechanics there suggested putting it on the flat, taking fuel cap off and removing air filter. Got it running after about 10 mins. On drive home it was good as gold.

Next morning would not start, kept idling at 200/500 revs.

Gone to look at it now and this is what its like?

Blown head gasket?

How much am I looking at for repair costs?

i cant see the video, but going on what your saying, if it is the head gasket then its very easy to change, will try and open the video again

I'm gutted, was supposed to pick up the alloys for it today and have only just scraped enough money together to get the skyline remapped.

oh no...that looks like one oily rag!!!

do you have condensed emulsion (mayonnaise) on the inside of teh oil filler cap?

either way it looks like a head gasket check/(replacement anyways since you have the head off)...but yes, it is not so bad of a job if you have somewhere warm dry and light to do the work (no hurry)...

I did mine and I'm a mechanical noob!...and was a success

on the K10 the most difficult part (for me) was getting the drivers side engine mount off.....<in order to remove the timing belt & head>.....for this bracket there is NO space to get tools in along with a caucasian sized hand!!!

May be the BE has more room here (HOPES).

If you can crack this then the rest is easy as long as you folow the manual an relax taking your time....new timing belt too while you're on £30 ish for belt £40 ish for head gasket kit

resuscitate the BE!

update with pics for your inspection :)

That's pretty unusual. I have never seen that much oil get into the water like that. I wonder if something more sinister is going on. Either way, get it out pronto. Oil sitting in the rad pipes really doesn't do them much good they will go all soft, and need replacing. Make sure you wash all the water ways out with some kind of detergent to get the oil residue away.

Looks as though you may be busy for a short while :)

Wont be able to do any work on it until Monday, have got some quotes in though. £500+

Cheaper to get new engine!

if its just the head gasket it is honestly very quick and simple to do and will save you a lot of moneys ive done it on two of my k10's

If you get stuck ask in my direction! 'New' engines used to be available for £250, but I doubt they are available any more.

this is terrible news... hope you get it all sorted out balloo! loved this car as far as im aware this is the only one on the forums! good luck (Y)

how mechanically minded are you? an ma gasket set is around £25, and it should only take you a couple of hours, for a straight swap, obv if the head needs skimming etc then it will take longer, but for a straight swap for a noob with the correct tools would easily be done in a day.

I get to play the cripple card on that one bud, I suffer from Lupus and my hands don't work 100%. Most of my skyline work could have been done by myself but just not able too.
It's a sod and costs a bloody fortune! But.........I have good news . . .

Before it was running like this:

Drained and flushed the system

It was running like this at about 5

By 7 I was able to get it driving. :D Will try to get it down to garage asap.

Yes don't drive it. The oil got in there somehow. I wouldnt have even started it until I could see why that had happened.

I have a low loader if you get really stuck but obviously there is a nominal charge for this.

buy another engine its not worth missing with..ive just seen a complete good runing 1.2 k10 go on ebay for £66,,,,,top end gasket set would cost more than that

Quick update, couldn't get the car to Ed's so a mate who specialises in Skylines came round to help.

It's gone, Head gaskets, piston rings etc etx. Talking to my mechanic in the morning for his opinion on a replacement but I'm hoping the CA18det is the prime runner.

Kepp you guys updated.

:D

ah thats a shame. still at least you can get something bigger into it. not ideal situation for right now but still a step forward i suppose :)
good luck (Y)

Bad timing aint the word, stripped out skyline interior for track and engine about to be out for a week!! Having nil car is a sod and a half.

I can't be too upset, my daily commute is 8 miles each way but includes 6 miles of motorway. The little thing always struggled doing above 60 and I guess 5 months was about it. Shame as it was in brilliant nick. I am going to keep the old engine and work on it slow time :D

I cant see why. I have driven to death those engines and they have lasted 100K+ doing 1000 miles a week! Something else must have gone really wrong like the block freezing and cracking in this weather or something.

Still good luck with it!

Ed dropped you a PM, I was going to swing passed to drop into see you and grap a cuppa from Charlie's.

Major question (apart from the quote) is would an CA18DET from a 1989 Silvia squeeze into a K10?

as per pm, Not without major chassis work. Are you sure you want to go RWD?

Some SR20DE are FWD but only from Primera/Almera etc, however more info in PM.
