K12 Head Unit Removal

On the 'S' model, do you need to remove the door pillars etc. before attempting head unit removal, or can you just remove the head unit like you would on most other cars (i.e. just by using extractors)?

It doesn't have a trip computer or anything like that ('53 model by the way).

OK in case anyone wants to know, yes you do need to remove the door pillar plastic/dashboard/vents etc. as per this thread. There were a couple of fiddly bits to deal with but it wasn't too bad just time consuming.

One thing I did notice though is that apart from the normal ISO connecter block there were also some little coloured connecter blocks going to the back of the OE head unit - does anyone know what they are for?

I'm hoping that they might be for the multi function display (in which case I could buy a MFD off eBay or something and fit it to the car)!
