INSURANCE!!

SO, changing the steering wheel on my car, and removing the rear seats, carpets, and inner door panels qualifies as a MODIFICATION to my insurance company! Result: They will cancel the policy! Another insurer says "Sure, we'll do it for only 200 quid more than you WERE paying (so that's a new policy at £820)!", but then the BROKER says "Oh, and you'll have to finish paying the full premium for the cancelled policy as well! (260 quid!!!)".
I've just run out of swear words....

Well, of course.

Who are you with? Always make sure your company allow mods. Some have a strict NO MOD policy. Churchill for example.

and most normal companies will have a limit of 6 mods max.
i've got least 12 mods and getting insured is harder each year (only sky & adrian flux can cover me).

how far were you into ur 12th contract before it was cancelled? if it was still early days, depending on policy I thought they'd refund some of the remaining months pro rata?

Look at Adrian Flux. They cover all cars as far as I know. I got onto page 3 of the mod list and it was cheaper than any other company

Today I asked my Broker to get a full and complete list of what Zenith insurance class as "Modifications". I don't expect to get one because ambiguity is better when you're trying to find a way to not pay out when expected to.
What DOES class as a Modification: De-Badging/De-Trimming? Changing your bulbs from Incandescent to LED? This is actually very important!!

we might as well get reward for no tax disc having more view out the screen making it all the more safer to see out with :)

everything, lol stickers even counter, different floormats, steering wheel cover.

Its ridiculous its just how anal they choose to be

No ****?

I transferred my insurance to a Ford Focus on Friday, and the broker told me that they've had a lot of complaints about this company for similar things, so they're not using them any longer! I feel slightly vindicated now :)

*Blows off the dust*
You gathered that I was rather miffed that Carpet Removal was considered a Modification, but how about STICKERS being classed as a Modification??

Some insurance related tripe....

Just sorted another years insurance. Noticed a few things this time around having to sort insurance for 3 vehicles total.

On the daily drivers I have noticed insurers starting to push money savings once more, so I did more ringing around this year than usual. Worst offenders were Aviva by a mile and they really got up my hooter due to their ridiculous excess charges.

The absolute minimum Aviva would quote was with a £400 excess, which consisted of £250 'compulsory excess' and an additional £150 'voluntary excess'. When I told them I didn't pay anything more than £0 voluntary they told me that their insurance policy has a minimum excess of £150. Ok....well, that would be a 'compulsory excess' regardless of it's origin.

I went elsewhere and not only reduced the overall premium with a better level of cover but also ended up with the excess on the Merc being £100 total and £60 total on the K11.

Sky still prevail for the modified cars. They've beaten everyone consistently for the past 7 years and this year my quote actually went down  So that was a very nice bonus.

Finally, I noted that since my dad has turned 70, I now put his insurance premiums down and he puts mine up. So that was met with hilarity due to that being the complete opposite for the past 2 decades :p

As always, worth running around a bit, even if it is to find out that you do in fact still have the best deal.

Last year I was like £500 or something on eCar Insurance for a 328 e46 when the renewal came up, I shopped around to find that eCar Insurance were happy to offer me £400 as a new customer. I phoned up and was told that I couldn't be offered the same price on a renewal... so I cancelled my policy and took out the new policy with them for £100 less. Bastards made me forward in proof of my NCB.

Lowest price, one year fully comp motor insurance on the MSC ?
Drivers with a clean unblemished insurance record and unmodified vehicles, may I suggest you get firm insurance quotes? Try Martin Lewis money saving expert.com instructions how to get the best quotes at:

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/car-insurance/

Follow the money saving expert guidelines closely such as describing employment as administrative or professional as possible without being misleading. Put older drivers on, partners and relatives with professional careers as additional named drivers, even if they almost never drive your vehicle.
Work through all four recommended comparison websites on mse above, to cover 90% of the market, to get the best quotes. Additionally, try the insurance brokers in your area and online who may specialise in getting competitive insurance for young drivers.
Never automatically renew existing insurance as you can always get a better lower price by repeating the above comparison websites procedure each year! Insurance companies always rip off existing customers with high prices for insurance automatic renewals. When you get the best price and take out the insurance, make sure you tell them not to automatically renew this policy next year, because they will try it on for next years auto renewal with a higher price!

Example

I paid £85 for one year fully comp, with max ncd, for myself, partner and my brother for my 1000cc 1998 micra . Untick and delete all the add-ons where the insurer’s clean up such as automatic renewal, NCD protection, and legal protection. I did not even try cashbacks, voucher codes, and cash back credit cards! If you want to save money, it takes a little forethought, planning, time and perseverance, but it can be very rewarding with everything you do to make your hard earned cash go a lot further.
Tripe hounds make it happen!

Already do all of the above. Also never settle for an online quote, ALWAYS speak to an individual and get the quote down further.

Wait, so you people over there in Britain actually declare mods?! In Ireland we can barely afford enough insurance to be some way legal. As far as i can see, most standard Micras are on open insurance. Open the door and run.

As a learner getting my own policy, the lowest I could find was €5200. Then a friend told me about a GPS based policy for €2100. For a car worth €400, where's the incentive to go by the book?
