Help Please

Hi i've just bought a 1992 K11 micra last week. I started servicing it today by changing all the fluids problem is when i cam to do the gearbox a ball bearing fell out when i lossed of what i asume is the fill hole. Proble is the bearing rolled inta a drain and is now gone for good  Could someone tell me what it was for and if it'll be ok to runn the car without it? Also the box is quite whiney so how much would a replacement 1.0litre box be? and does anyone have one in the Newcastle area. Thanks everyone in advance

hi ellisd

it was probably the selector rod indent ball, which holds it in a gear
was there a spring as well ?

yes the springs still here. do you know what size the beraing is? i've got a few knocking about if it's n ot an abscure size. is it jus a case of puttint the bearing back in, or does the car have to be in a certain gear?

ellisd

i would try a ball, a bit bigger than the spring, any gear
if it is the selector jobbie, it rests in a number of notches on the rod
i always check the level thro the speedo cable hole (10mm bolt and pull it out) so its level with the drive cog
