Gettin' my top off

Good question. The tailgate is welded in now, top and bottom. I tried to take one of the lights out out of curiosity, but they're bonded in (I assumed to solve a leak issue) so tricky to remove anyway.

I gave up and said 'f#ck it, theyre staying in".

Probably need to do something clever to get them out.

So, finally got some quality time alone with the Micra.

Picked up a bigger 'weld dresser' at Newark the other weekend.

Got the welding ground off and threw some primer on.

And welded in some bulkhead bars.

Hopefully tomorrow I will get the bulkhead wall welded in!

Chris.

And some more done today.

First get the side panel from a 44u data cabinet and butcher it.

This is the bit I want, comes with bracing already tacked in!

A few test fits and subsequent tweaks.

That's probably going to be it for now, will be moving it to the lockup at the weekend hopefully so I can get a couple of other projects sorted.

In the meantime I have some paperwork from dvla to fill in!

:)

So today the pickup saw daylight for the first time. It sits way too high, so I will be addressing that at some point.

Then tucked it away in my lockup for the winter. Someone remind me in the spring. :)

Only in GB would you have to jump through hoops like this. Jobsworths.
only in GB is that allowed davy, in the rest of europe you have to use specially type approved springs/lights/bumpers etc, they wont allow you to cut panels off like that ^

have you considered filling this curve to match the curve of the rear hatch? i think it would give the finished product a clean look to it:Do_O

Good point, will take another look at that.

The car will be getting finished before it goes near an IVA, the original plan was to top the edges with wood.

The cage will be getting welded up and welded in, painted and probably sleeved up in pipe lagging etc.

The car has taken a wee sabbatical, I'm moving house in Feb and won't have a garage until I have built one, so I stuffed it in my lockup for now.

In the weeks I have left I'm fulfilling a promise to fit yet another V6 engine in an MR2, will post some pics up of it later.

When the new garage is built (probably mid 2016) the Micra will be the first project to get worked on. Summertime car ftw!

:)

Hi folks,

Just in case you thought this had gone cold; the car is still in the lock up but i did dig it out yesterday and give it some fresh air. I reconnected the battery and it started first time.

I'm moving house in a couple of weeks. Once moved this little bundle of joy will be getting my full attention. I might even get to drive it for the summer!

:)

Chris.

Sorry! We were very fortune with the house move; we spent less than we thought which left a few squids for me to get a garage built. Or as its now known as,"The Bodgelair".

Always got time for anyone nearby who needs some garage time, just bring cookies and Doombar.

20' x 20' - its about as big as I could go without planning permission.

The idea is that I can have one half for whatever slow project I'm cooking, and still have room to work on anything else.

Decadent I know. But I saw the chance and went for it.

:)

its a good size, i would be well happy with a garage that size ( like pig in ****) its better than nothing, going by ya previous pics, its bigger than what ya had, so all is good :D enjoy it mate, and take plenty of pics when ya working :D

So, back to it. This arrived:-

Made some room in the garage by

a) making a loft to hide stuff
b) chopping up some pallets
c) throwing stuff out.

Then got the Micra into a suitable position.

Time to get cracking!

Yep, its a scissor lift, you can crank it by hand but I'm planning on using a motor instead.

Picked it up from a mate who was having a clear out.
