Genuine Thermostat (worth the money over pattern part)?

I need to replace my Thermostat on my K11.
Is there major difference between a Genuine replacement and a pattern replacement on sealing fitment? Naturally, the prices are much different been quoted £28 for the genuine from local Nissan dealer.
Though, I thought I heard somewhere the pattern part one had housing fitment issues and made sealing harder?

Never had an issue with aftermarket thermostats fitting wise. And I certainly wouldn't pay £28 from Nissan for one.

Main dealer car parts prices are a total rip off especially when they are manufactured and supplied by specialist sub-contractor parts makers who also supply the same parts to the aftermarket for a fraction of main dealer prices?

I recently compared K11 water cooling thermostat prices from ECP, Car Parts 4 Less, MPD, & Parts service, of brands Veinet ,Circoli & Gates 88, at prices from £3.90 to £10.50. I bought & fitted the cheapest I could get for my 18 year old banger & it fitted and works well without any issues.

Both thermostat works the same imo. The only benefit of the genuine is the little bleed valve at the top of the housing which makes it easier & faster to bleed the system. It's not much benefit tbh cos you just bleed the non-valves stat by simply warming up the engine till the stat valve opens up, bubbles escape and you recheck refill the levels till it stabilises.

So in the end, paying an extra £10-25 just to save some time bleeding the system ain't worth it imho.

My £5 stat has the reqd. 1.5mm bleed hole predrilled/fitted.

My only reservation is the choice of risking a cheap £5 stat prematurely failing and boiling up the engine and the disproportionately expensive potential consequences?

same with any thermostat tbh. you keep an eye on ur temp gauge and if it starts rising too much, turn off to prevent damage rather than ignore it.

I focus on the known knowns that we know we know.
Mean time to failure of a £5 stat is problematic at best a known unknown?
What is known:

1. It fits
   
   
2. It works
   
   
3. does the job
   
   
4. Cost just £5

That’s a good enough compromise for me & my 18 year old banger.

FWIW, I bought a thermostat from Motor Parts Direct and it never fitted properly.
I think in the end I went to Nissan for a genuine part.
