Gearbox Identification

Hi new here and wondered if anybody can help with gearbox identification.

The gearbox in my son's 2002 998cc has unfortunately failed recently and so I picked up a V reg car with the assumption that the gearbox would be the same but now I have taken them both out then I find they are not !!!

I therefore need to find another gearbox and have found one eBay with the code 4M401 #2 whereas the one from the car has the code 4M40 #4.

Are these the same model and will this replacement fit?

I think its to do with the splines, I've read some stuff on here about that.

You need the gearbox from a second facelift coilpack Micra. 00-early03. You unfortunately got the dizzy engined 1st facelift box.
This is the type you require.

yes, be wary of the diff internal splines tho, they can drop down out of position, into the bottom of the box
