gear box refurbishment

i have decided to keep my 1l transmission, but as i have a spare box i am looking to refurb it but ive been quoted £300-£400 for this

so if anyone knows anyone or here that can do it as i want to basically put in a fresh box with engine.

so all help will be great :)

Yours will be fine mate, £400 could get you some decent mods mate

Bigger brakes

Even a remap :)

If your worried about yours there's always my box which is fine ;)

well i was just going to get the seals and bearings changed in your to bang in when we do the engine... but i may just leave it and use yours but it will save any problems in the near future

I thought yours was ok now?

Have you thought about reprofiling your cams or a new set? More power is to be gained from that little beaut of an engine

What exhaust system do you have now mate? What about nos :p

New bearing and seals im affter could do it myself i guess and mine just feels hoorrible and no leaks thhat i know of i doont think. But if i do it myself with a kit it would be good experience.

Like im after it to last when i change engine with no hicups if this makes sense!

Damn phone lol

i know its what you get for living around here everything is sky high!

what do i need for the rebuild? is there any like kits about? that anyone knows of which i could attempt myself?

as it would be a great lerning curve for me

you can get bearings from a stockist will (there,ll be a number etched on) same for oilseals
but anything else will be dealer only
but the selector mechanism is a bit of a chinese puzzle tho

does that usually want replacing? but never doing this before im anxsious about doing it, as i cant really afford to mess it up

g/boxes tend to be a specialist type job will tbh, but my k10 haynes has a chapter on stripping our RS5F41 type g/box, and the russian pdf has loads of pics etc (page 126 onwards)

well ill have a look in my k11 haynes tonight

but at the end of the day i will only attempt it when im sure i know what im doing which is very much unlikely! so if i cant get enough info ill have to give it to someone else to carry out the work as i need this to last for a long time....

i must admit i do feel reasonably useless at this stuff, i learn it at uni and college etc but being stuck in a bodyshop and no where to do it at home i get no practise no matter how much id love to!
