Fitting that new Clutch !

Are we all agreed the WHOLE GEARBOX must come off - not just the drive-shaft etc on the Clutch side ? What are these things you have to prevent falling into differential - that sounds scary !

The previous owner of my car had the clutch replaced, and theres a garage receipt saying "take out gearbox, replace clutch, refit gearbox". Glad I didnt have to pay for that one...

i've only ever worked on a k11 but i'm sure the theroy is the same. doesn't it go engine-flywheel-clutch-gearbox-drive shaft

I'm pretty sure you have the at leat move the gear box away (and in most cases remove it)

Gearbox will have to come out. Iv done it a couple of times now. Get someone to give you a hand, can be a pain in the arse to line it back up with out anyone there.

As Haynes say (which would be good to have by your side) to use a broom handle to line everything up when putting back together.

Be vary careful of getting gearbox oil on you, it bloody stinks. ha ha

I think the "things falling into the differential" was my fault... I didn't know that the drive gears were so insecure and I was fooling about turning the input shaft.. in the absence of the drive shafts to keep 'em in place, the rotation I was inputting led to the drive gears moving out of position sufficiently to drop out of the cage. Dash and bother. Deeply inconvenient.
Next time I tapered two small lengths of broom pole and knocked them gently in the drive shaft holes to keep everything in position. Helped keep some of the smelly oil in as well.

i need to do this next month as my release bearing is making a horrid squeeling sound........realy realy bad squeeling sound..lol

Speaking of the smelly gear oil. Is there a way to drain the gearbox fully.. I mean with the plug out you still get quite a gush when you pull the driveshafts out. I am planning another dismantling soon and would like to avoid the savings on the garage bill being spent on new clothes. If one were to take the plug out the day before and leave it dribbling overnight perhaps??

How about undo the top of the gearbox by removing the speedo cable (think it's the speedo cable).....allowing a flow through may help to speed up the process!!

I can do one in about 2 hours i changed mine on saturday between races
Dont use a broom handle you narner use a 1/4 drive 7/16 long reach socket to line up the plate up

il do it for about £160

It smell a bit like grapefuit but its is really nast, will hang around for ages on your skin iv found.

Bob, I had the right tool but not everyone will have, hense why i said it.

gear oil smells bad i should know i have done a gearbox change and replise the clutch as well easy if u know how
