engine rebuild

Belly93

to turbo or new lump :/ hmmm
I'm thinking of stripping and rebuilding. My k11 engine renewing bearings and rings. Etc, can anyone tell me
1, is it easy enough I could do it on the drive I have experience. As in goin onto level 3 as a light vehicle mechanic,
2 what tools would i need, i have basic tools wratchet, spanner, wratchet spanners, mole grips, breaker bar , do i need andthing like E sockets or other specialist. Tools apart from ring compressor, torque wrench,

yes, you,ll get by with basic tools belly :) mainly 3/8" sockets, and an 1/2" 14mm,17mm,22mm,27mm, and 10mm hex and long breaker bar, and spanners etc

Im a joiner and i was able to do it. If your thinking haynes its pretty useless apart from torque settings. The odd tools are:

22mm spanner for holding cam while undoing bolt
10mm allen key bit for head bolts
Ring compressor
Torque wrench
Angle torgue gauge
Valve spring compressor (if doing stem seals)
Some loctite 5980 instant gasket

Hope this helps

Don't wana sound stupid but angle torque gauge? Istant gasket for casing sump rocker cover?

What frank said and the sealant i said isnt a must, you can get a different brand its just ive never had a single issue with the stuff in about 5 years of using it so highly recommend it :)

I've done cylinder. Head jobs at work with a torque wrench and a breaker bar for head bolts without using an angle gauge

Out of curiousity what torque wrenches and angle guages are people using, i want to get one, but i want to get the one in the right range,
The CAM Sprocket bolts took a right kick to get out, so im guessing i need something that can torque up to 150nm?
Cheers Guys

Im using halfords professional tools, Had them for years now! And if i remember correctly you only need up to 120 odd nm for a micra engine. But my big wrench goes pretty high

I use snap on tools but I work in a garage so can justify. Paying the prices but I would say halfords advance would be good enough for this

Ahh right, what about the cylinder head bolts, they were in with some force but i only had an allen key to break them (Got them off haha) can you get long socket allen extentions?
Sorry for the questions, but i've been interested in torque factors a long time, and a CG13 engine is going to be the first engine i've ever built,

Cheers very much guys!

Dam, why didnt i think of that, instead i was stood there making ghetto breaker bars lol, took loads of force to free the bolts frank haha, i'd need the right driver size for the 10mm though as i've snapped sockets/wrenches so easily before haha!
And of course im going to need to cut the allan down if i have to torque to specification too!
