Diagnostic panel question???

I have an m reg micra and in the haynes manual it says that when you take the fuse cover off below the fuse box theres a panel where you can do a simple diagnostic test with wire. Is there meant to be two of those diagnostic panels because i tried with a piece of wire and nothing flashed up so maybe im doing something wrong ??

justmadeit, yours probably has,nt got a malfunction light on the dash, you have to use the led on the end of the ecu to count the flashes
(behind the drivers left kickpanel, iirc)
