Crank Shaft Oil Seal

Are they a common problem on the Cg13?

Mine is leakin quite bad???
the oil seems to be leaking from that area???

Please someone tell me its somethin else.......:(

They can go yeah, mine at flywheel end went...easy enough to replace though, as you can pull out the old one and push the new one back on without taking anything major apart.

apart from the g/box, clutch and f/w kris lol :wasntme:
the o/s crankseal is easy tho :)

Common on alot of cars and I found that its down to the quality of oil you use in the engine that determines how long it lasts

the leak seems to be comin from the crank pulley end.. This probably means engine out?? Hopefully not.. If anyone has replaced one without droppin the engine could they let me know?? :) cheer's :)

Its tight but you can undo the pulley nut and remove the pulley with the engine in place...you may need to undo the mounts and jack the engine up slightly though.

yes, remove the o/s mount and drop the engine down a couple of inches, then access is perfect :)

or in more detail..... :grinning:
remove the 2 nuts and 1 bolt on the top of the o/s mount (to drop the engine down a bit), and the top bolt in the alternator (so you can flick the belt off).
then remove the crankpully bolt (i had to support the socket extension bar on a length of wood and whack the breakerbar to free the bolt off (as in pic).
then flick the oilseal out, and fit the new one :)

Good man frank, legend(Y)

I think we have this on our rally Micra, the oil seal leaking on the pulley end. Its covered in oil around the area. The car used over two litres of oil on its last event. Went to check the oil level last night and found NO oil at all on the dip-stick. The engine (touch wood) still runs fine and the oil pressure light never came on. Top marks to Nissan :)

I hope changing the seal is quite easy. Thanks for the guide Frank.

Nissan will be able to sort you out :)

Thats where i bought mine from iirc, unfortunatly i cant remeber the part number...but the parts guy should be able to track it down easy enough.

Just resurrecting this old thread as I just popped my crankshaft seal out and tried to fit one from eurocarparts - it doesn't fit. So, I've ordered one from Nissan, but thought I would add some knowledge for the next person searching. I know I have a CG10 and not a CG13 - but if you google "Nissan Crankshaft seal" this is the first result, so a good knowledge repository.

Nissan part: 12279-1F700 (as removed from my CG10 K11)

EuroCarParts/GSF both try to supply: elring 151.500 (ecp part: 369 70 0141). This is 11mm thick, which is too much for my CG10, the original being nearer 8.5mm according to my caliper

Nissan dealer charges £28.something for the part (3 day lead time); but if you're in for an aftermarket part, the following numbers MAY help:
AJUSA 15060100
REINZ 81-53329-00
GLASER P77521-01
BGA OS0392
NATIONAL 228411

Hope this helps someone before they have a gearbox on the floor and a part that doesn't fit...
M.
