Ok, I've done some reading up on my problems but thought I'd run it by you guys to get some opinions.
First of all, the only way to describe this first issue is that the engine taps, like a diesel but quieter. I've read that it might be the throw-out bearing, and this is possible considering my next issue is that the clutch sounds like it's making a rubbing noise, but only when I set off in first gear. It doesn't do it when in neutral, it doesn't do it when the clutch pedal is pressed, ONLY when setting off, and not when the car is moving either.
The tapping sound I can only really hear when the engine is idling.
So, throw-out bearing of clutch, or maybe the input shaft bearing of the gearbox? Or perhaps something else...
I don't get any clutch slipping what-so-ever and the gears engage just fine 99% of the time.
