can u fit normal gearbox on a super s

wide arch boy can u tell me more. im interested if its a k10 1.2 5speed gearbox. can u email me reasonable price on this link or [email protected]. thanks mate

It was me who said the early K11 boxes may fit. This may be another thing I need to try from you Wide-arched-boy! I cant stand the K10 close ratio boxes!

No, they're totally crap Ed.

In actual fact, as long as you dont do regular motorway work, the 4 speed is the one of choice.

totally agree my old 1.0 4 speed was the best box of all the ones i had as for motorways it alwasy went off the clock on flat roads the 5 speed does about 97 tops

What? The thing that made the long ratio 5 speed SO GOOD was the fact of the insane economey it got. YES it went SLOWER in 5th than it did in 4th (4th was the same as the normal 4 speed box) BUT it would get insane MPG. The 4spd can not match this. If you wanted to go fast you used 4th if you wanted good economey you use 4th it was kind of like micra overdrive :)

insane MPG my arse. I've had less than 30mpg on the run when mainly in 5th.

It all depends on the car, how well in balance the carb is and how good the dizzy is, becuase we all know about the failure's of the electric dizzy.

in my opinion I think using the long ratio gearbox with the 4th and 5th gear ratios out of the close ratio gearbox would be the best for the K10

1st 3.412
2nd 1.958
3rd 1.258
4th 1.028
5th 0.850
final 3.810

This would give about 3500rpm in 5th gear at 70mph on standard wheels of 175/60/13. and would be good for top speed too as at 5200 is about 103mph in 5th

Your arse then, as I could quite easily average 45mpg over a 520 mile journey on my old K10 L with the 5 speed long ratio box. By comparison the short ratio 5speed I struggled to make 32mpg on the same journey... I hope to improve this as its not really acceptable - this car is in need of a tune however, and it was night time driving so that would add more load.

Going back to whethter you can fit an early K11 gear box into a K10. They might use the same clutch but the gear box will NOT fit unless you heavily modify the rear engine mounting and the side engine mounting then you've got to turn the gear selector rod 90 degrees to fit the selector shaft Much easier to just buy a second hand box normally around £100.00 delivered.
