Cam Belt Tensioner

Hi i took my cam belt off the other day to do my head, just wondering is the belt tensioned by just the spring pressure or also 'locked' in place by the nut running through the centre?

thought it would lol, little worried about putting it back on as i have not done this by myself before so i think i will get someone to help and the haynes bible too, i remember how to time it all up just not how to tighten the belt and how tight

if your carefull enough, you can change the cambelt without having to time it up. just remember to not move the cam or crank gear and you will be fine. Thats how I did my 1st micra's cambelt, and how I will be doing my 2nd.

When i put mine on i had to push it and tighten nut at the same time to get the tension right for the cam belt! Haynes says something like 0.5kg pressure on belt max deflection and couple of millimetres!
