Well Im thinking of saying goodbye to the micra in august, and was thinking of upgrading to maybe a Almera. What engine size would be best to go for and trim bearing in mind I dont wanna push my insurance tax up that much.

Get a 2.0 GT, James & Ollie both have. Anything less will probably feel under powered for the size of the car

I had my GTI at 19 with 2 years no claim and cost £1100 on insurance so im sure it wont be alot for you

IMO the phase 2 is the best looking and with the best extra, headlights, white dials etc

That's okay, I thought you were having a dig is all

Primera is a bit bigger, but I don't see it as that much of a problem.

Almeras are good too though, better driving position in the Almera, although the Primera feels better built! lol
