pretty much, just a bead of sealer round the two connecting parts. Just make sure you leave it plenty time to cure or youll be doing it all again...

Yeah as R said, no point just covering the blow in sealent, wont do much good. It needs to be taken apart and sealent applied before refitting to make it seal efficiently.

To an extent yes, but it should only be used from the cat-back where temps arent as hot as manifold area etc. Same with gungum, its not recomended to be used forward of the cat, but folk do anyway.

Maybe it hadnt set and you gave it a "spirited drive" and blew all the stuff out? and its just high temperature Black Silicon from a motor factors or B&Q man. Custom Phil at Unique Exhausts doesnt use gaskets, only silicon and they never blow if left to set.
