K12 Micra Rear Axle Bushes

my K12 Micra 2007 (160SR) has worn rear bushes, I've been told by a dealership (admittedly not Nissan) that these come in a single unit as the rear axle, quoted £2776 including labour to replace (£2k+ for the part, 7 hours for labour).
Does anybody know if this job can technically be done insitu? obviously at an independent. Or using a quality remanufactured axle from a specialist. Obviously the above quote writes off my car. I have seen axles on Ebay and have been down the road previously of using eBay sourced parts (unbranded) and I would rather avoid that, they tend not to last long, or garages have issues with fitting them... Unless of course someone okays it on this forum from previous experience, and can vouch for one in particular. it is just that I can find no other details or videos online on the K12 rear bushes, so I'm a little stuck of what avenue to go next without it becoming a potential moneypit. I know Nissan tends to only do them as complete units, I had the same issue with wiper bushes but managed to successfully replace the bushes myself without requiring the entire mechanism/motor as Nissan quoted, but this is another level, so I'm hopeful that someone knows another way.

which bushes? the subframe bushes are the only one I can think of back there and they are 17 quid each. drop the axle (4 bolts, two through the bushing and two through the shocks), you will have to undo the ancillaries (brake lines, ABS sensor, etc.). press the old out (there's a specially tool, looks like a really strong G clamp) and press in new ones. it's about 4 hours labour.
Dealers are taking the pish claiming it's a full rear axle replacement. the bushings are a service item, designed to wear and be replaced.

Euro carparts does a poly bush for it, even easier to fit, tightens the back end up, but will increase vibration.

as to "can it be done in situ" yes, but it's a fecking pain, easier to drop the axle and do it at the bench.

go find a good local garage and ask there instead.

The operative adjective is slightly & that in my MOT tester’s words one needs to apply a little experience, judgement & common sense with old (2007) cars & this is therefore an advisory only. :)

Just for the record, if you are able with the correct tools to remove the rear axle and replace the bushes, however without specialists tools to remove the bushes and press in new ones you will be better to order a new axle for around £229 yes £229, this is delivered free and comes complete with new bushes, When my rear axle bushes are ready to replace I will replace with a new axle. We all know garages rip of customers and on the K12 which are getting on a bit it is better to try and fix your own car where possible even if that means a local garage and you provide the parts to save being ripped of with cost of parts from the garages contacts!;) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144113006987
