Hi all,

I'm searching for either Nissan roof racks for the 3 door micra (hopefully they exist and bolt into something in that black plastic strip along the sides of the roof). If they don't exist...

Well I'm looking for a micra towbar (or commonly called a 'tow-pack'.

Why am I looking for such god awful ugly things? Well I'm bafffled myself but its got something to do with me wanting to get more active/healthy but mainly something to do with my new uni charging stupid fees for dodgey parking!

Cheers

Welcome back White knight!

Yeh I've found roof racks suitable for the super s but they require drilling into the roof and leave these horrible little black things when not installed.

Those black plastic roof gutter things along both sides of the roof.. I figure that there's some kind roof rack system which could fit into them. Called 2 nissan dealers thismorning and they both told me to go talk to Rhino/Rola/Thule, etc.
They also directed me to aftermarket companies for tow packs.

I'm not even sure if the tow bar is suitable for lowered cars yet!!

Cheerio

Hi Yom,

FYI the towbar on my white micra was supplied and installed by A-Line Towbars in Southport. It cost $180 including installation about three years ago. They were good guys to deal with I was very happy with their work.

Mine is an aftermarket one (sorry don't know the brand offhand)... You can unbolt the "tongue" that holds the towball for a more discrete look when you aren't towing anything.... The tongue comes out from underneath the rear bumper so you don't have to cut or modify it.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't lower the car with the towbar fitted... (might have to lower the trailer as well though to keep it flat). Mine doesn't seem to have anything in the way of any of the suspension parts if it was lowered.

I can't say I noticed any difference at all to the car's performance & handling with the towbar fitted... However in theory it should act as an additional brace for the rear section of the bodyshell.

A towbar makes the micra look a bit like a bumble-bee... The "spike" sticking out the rear seems to help encourage drivers behind to keep their distance... ;)

Don't mean to be hijacking here, but i also want to carry a surfboard and mountain bike around. I'd be interested to know (maybe some UK memebers know?)if there was a rail option, with removable crossbars, like a subaru forester has std avail for the micra:

Any thoughts on making some rail things up or getting them from another car? those forester ones look like they could be screwed into the black strip part of the roof (does anyone know how to take that black strip off?), and then just get the removable crossbars that have width adjustment.

Hi AlexB,

FYI rola have a similar "track" system in their catalogue for the micra... http://www.rola.com.au/rola/
I am not sure it is designed to fit within the black roof strips like the one on the Subaru.

FYI a small lightweight trailer suitable for the Micra I am thinking about getting... they are sold as a kit at some kmart stores.

The ultimate small car trailer... I would love of these but unfortunately they are out of my budget !.

Without meaning to sound funny:

I like your towbar Makes. (haha there I said it).

Very practical and looks pretty clean/simple..

There are times where I wish we had a towbar on either car.
We always seem to need a trailer thesedays for something, and it certainly adds up borrowing/hiring utes etc and paying delivery fees for things all the time.

Any photos showing how the towbar attaches? Do they just bolt to the two large holes in the chassis rails near the back or also bolt to the centre tow eye or another point?
I'm planning on towing trailer loads of builders mix.
