wheel refurbing

ok so ive got a 1.0 k11 1995 and a friend has jus give me sum old (late 90's) 15" bbs alloy wheels similar to the 1's in the picture they are in need of a good refurb and im going to do it myself. i was just wondering if sumbody on here has done this and could do me a list of the things i am going to need and the best place to buy it all from..?

also what size tyre's am i best putting on these i am looking to lower (eventualy) about 40mm

Are they the nice 15" BBS from an E30 3 Series?

I've used the "Car Lathe" method before to polish rims, jack up the car with the front wheels off the ground, start it up and put it in gear to spin the wheels, work through grades of wet and dry then polish.
