Tracked vehicles

Are tracked vehicles legal on the road?
I don't mean a tank but can you convert an everyday vehicle to run on tracks and use on the road.
I know you can get conervsion kits to turn some vehicles into tracked vehicles to help with off-road driving.

yes they are but you have to fit rubber stops to them so they don't damage the tarmac.
