engine out of car when we fitted the new chain we turned the engine by hand to check it and that is how we found the problems. There seemed to be alot of slack between the cam shaft sprockets, the Haynes bible mentions inserting 3 bar of air down the oil passage to the variable sprocket to release a locking pin but this is with the engine in situ, mine is out, and this locking pin is not mentioned in the chapter with the engine out !, so would i still have to release the pin the same way or is it visable to the eye ?
if its the same type of tensioner as the CG there a a ratchet thingy that holds the spring in preload, and you have to push the tensioner fully in to release it
