timing chain failing??

Hi

Noticed just now my chain seems unusually loud. Is it failing?

I was quoted £546 labour for a chain change so thats out the question.

Any advice?

wow thats bad check if its just the upper one (1hr job, as opposed to 1 day job for both chains)

How can I check the top chain? And the bottom?

God knows. Leaving it at work overnight and gonna find another way home.

Tomorrow gonna lift rocker cover and just check the chain. How does the top one tension?

hydraulic one at the rear, but i could completely remove mine and it would,nt sound much different, so it wont be that

Ok i'll whip the rocker cover off tomorrow and also the side cover to check tensioner piston? I'll check slack on the chains.

What do you think is best to do? What is the likelihood of the chain slipping off?

my old super s had 1 chainlink hanging by a thread and sounded like yours, or else a loose sprocket maybe ?

Afternoon all

Just started the motor from cold and to my surprise it isn't making that loud noise?

Drove a couple miles to a garage and its still no making a noise?

Gonna check the other belts and pulleys

Possibly a stuck tensioner?

Service is well overdue ,could rubbish oil cause a jammed tensioner?
