Timing Chain and Changes

Hi all,

Sorry if these questions have been asked previously.

I have a Nissan Micra 2009 25th Edition version (1.4 L), purchased this year. It has done 80k.

Service history is almost full until around £56k, then a bit patchy to non existent.

Please could you advise if I need to change the timing chain, and if so when ?

Many years ago I had the timing belt (not chain) go on an old Seat Leon, which I hadn't replaced at the recommended intervals. And I don't want anything similar happening.

But as I understand it the chains are good for a very long time ?

You should not need to replace the cam chain on the petrol version unless you develop a misfires and chain stretch, your model is a late k12 model and should have the higher tensile linked chains fitted. Only the Diesel versions need changing every 60K and they are the only version of the K12 micra that are belt driven. P.s do a Oil change more frequently at first. that is important to flush out any crap and deposits that may have built up.
