Thinking of Buying

Found a 12/95 SLX Manual sitting for 12 month undriven next to an old car yard. Enquired to buy and went and looked over it.

Good- Engine started perfectly cold and no timing chain rattle
- air con works on all speeds and is cold
- gearbox and clutch change and work perfect
- everything opens and closes fully weather tight no leaks
- brakes are fine no grinding, tyres good nic
- car is complete and ready for restoration and able to be registered
- 50% tread all 4 tyres and new battery!

Bad - Teal Green paint is somewhat chalky and may come up good after a thorough detail
- bonnet and roof clear coat is coming off in large flakes
- needs new windscreen seal
Motor has done 263,000 and new and clean oil and coolant

What is everyone's thoughts and how much should I pay???

how much do you think the car is worth. it's a how long is a piece of string question. without having seen the car it's really impossible to say that it's worth x amount. although the car may run fine it may have underlying issues. saying that though, micras are generally pretty good.

how mechanical are you? with that amount of km and having sat for a while there may be numerous minor roadworthy issues. they may be little things but can add up into the thousands when being done at a workshop.

i say start low. personally i probably wouldnt pay more than 6-700 depending on how much work i could tell it needed for rwc

I want to steal at $400
My father is an Automotive Engineer so if anything goes wrong he can fix it.
So basically if the engine runs into trouble he can do all the machining.
Haven't told him yet coz he won't like the idea of a project and will put his foot down!
As far as I've researched and have a mate with a super s so got a bit of knowledge of what to look for, all seems pretty good and I've sussed out all the key problem areas.

Thanks for your input! Now to actually get it and work out what I want to do to it

Has an old rego sticker from 2011
Actually surprised in the condition the motor was in especially when It started
Just hope I can polish and buff the paint to an acceptable condition

check for rust on front rail under bumper, also front and back of roof seams

I checked all round for rust and couldn't find any.
