the metal rod inside the driver door Help

my 3 door hatch back K11
I had to put a new outside door handle so I had to strip inside of the door, Managed fit the replacement handle
I can not connect the rod from inside of the new door handle to the lock mechanism so you could open the door
as I said only if I get help with fixing the rod to thr lock.

Leave the handle loose while you connect the rod as it gives you more room to get the right orientation.

I tried but very difficult to get it right,
even thought of replacing the door but the hassle of
Respraying puts me off
