sports air filter

All the induction kit/sports filters I have seen on this forum are using a bent rubber pipe and then a straight length of alloy tube up to the sports filter.I have my sports filter mounted directly onto the throttle body top.Is there any extra benefit by using the extended inlet tract or am I ok leaving it as is?

yes as it gets cooler air from relocating it rather than on top of the throttle body as it will be sucking in warm air that passes over the hot body of the engine
