Speedo drive help

My car aboult 5 weeks ago killed it's speedo drive and I was driving home tonight and it killed a second one the first time it went I was starting to break from aboult 60mph and the second time I was doing 75mph overtaking someone and it died again just like the first time is it a common fault on micras or am I having bad luck

Specs are a 1.3 engine with 1l gearbox and 15" 7j alloys

No the unit is broke and I got a spare one on my parts micra

Have you got enough oil in the gearbox. That speedo drive is usually fully submerged. Just a thought.

The oil is aboult halfway up the gear

The main drive gear is fully submerged in the gearbox could I be useing the wrong oil I'm useing 80w gearbox oil

Oil is v v unlikely to be the issue here

I'm thinking the main gear in the box is bent or damaged goner pull out the latest broken one today to see were it failed

Pull it out and then spin the gear with the ignition on and see if the speedo works then, if yes the sensor and wiring is fine and is a fault in the box.

The last one was in two bits and seems to be seized

This was the old one looks fine I felt the gear inside the box that felt fine aswell so I'm lost as what it could be

Nearly a month on and my speedo has died again what is cuseing it to do this
