This happened to me yesterday and I had difficulty finding a clear solution that worked.
My car is an '03 1.4 Sx with keyless start. It only seems to affect cars with this feature.
Basically, my car was sat for 2 weeks without being started and the battery went completely flat.
I charged the battery and on trying to start it, the immobiliser light stays on and nothing happens.
What you need to do is disconnect the battery, press the brake pedal for 5 seconds to remove any
lingering charge in the system then leave it disconnected for 30 minutes. Reconnect the battery and
the car starts first time. I used the emergency key but I'm not sure that is necessary.
And if you've lost your radio code, these guys supply one for free if you give them the model and serial
number from the rear of your radio http://www.radio-code.lt/login
