Rust and MOT

Hi all,

I've seen a few threads on here regarding MOT failures due to rust and wondered whether the amount of rust in the photos would warrant a fail. I'm assuming it definitely would.

What are the costs of repairing this including average labour costs at a small local independant? I've seen crossmembers on ebay for about £25, but there's two types, 1992-1998 and 1993-2002, how do I know which one is the correct one? Its a 1998 S reg 2 door Micra Passion 1L, so falls under both date ranges.

The first picture is a fail, and a £30 repair.
Second picture may not be, can you push a screwdriver through it??? if so, a fail, and probably a £50 repair. If not, may pass, then scrape off the rust and treat it.
Yours must be the 93/02 one, I would think buddy.

Just at the MOT centre now. It's a fail on that one area as it's right next to a brace thats supporting the engine block.

I can patch it up with a plate an it'll cost about £90 including labour, which I'll have to do again or buy a new one off the bay for £25 pay about £90 for the labour and have it propely sorted he said.

All the rest is just surface rust.

Lending us a car while it gets done so my wife can cart the kids to school and get to work.
