Replacement ABS unit - programming needed?

Good afternoon, I've tried finding an answer in the back-catalogue of abs threads but couldn't see an answer for my specific question; If I can get a salvage replacement ABS module, will it need reprogramming?

I've got a 160SR that has had the handbrake, esp, and ABS warning lights come on intermittently when starting. For a little while this would clear if I cycled the ignition, but I've been looking for sources of a replacement ABS unit in anticipation of it failing. The lights are now on permanently and a code reader shows "ABS control unit failure", so I need to get it to a garage.

What I want to do is take it to a repair and electronics specialist garage and ask them to investigate, diagnose and confirm the abs module has failed, and get a quote for installing a replacement unit. Ideally then I'd be able to provide the donor unit and have them fit it, but does anyone know if the abs modules need reprogramming to the new car? I'm aware the 160SR and C+Cs have a slightly different unit to the other k12s, if I can get a salvaged C+C unit would this be a simple job to get a garage to install?

Many thanks if anyone is able to help and save some running around.

Posting an update as I know how annoying it is to see the same question you have on the internet but with no answers; did my best kerbside troubleshooting whilst I kept an eye out for a replacement part online. Found a replacement ABS unit with the exact part number (47660 BC42A) from a European 2nd hand parts seller who even claimed to offer a warranty. I've seen them come up intermittently on ebay but this specific part number seems a bit tricky to find for sale especially with a positive test, and from looking at other units (even from C+Cs) they were a slightly different shape, so I stumped up the cash and postage and bought it as I was running out of time to get the issue properly fixed.

I was fairly lucky to find a garage nearby that were helpful; they weren't electrical specialists but they gave it a good diagnostic check including fuses and wiring, and quoting for replacing the module with the part I supplied. They replaced it and fought through a a couple of related issues, and it is all now working. They have given me the removed unit as on inspection it looks like (as a few people have reported) there was water getting in to the connector plug causing corrosion on the pins which could have been the issue all along, but after removing the old unit and cleaning the pins in the plug I requested the original be replaced with a 'known good' replacement.

So to answer my original question; no reprogramming needed even from a non-uk sourced 2nd hand part. Another point of interest is the original abs module removed from my 160SR has a sticker on it that says "Centralita ABS Nissan Micra K12E 1.5 TurboDiesel 0265950436" so if you're searching for a replacement part knowing the 1.5 diesel also used them adds to your search terms.

very interesting read, been abroad and have missed a lot but have a cross reference of ABS pumps for future reference if any one encounters problems. thanks for the updated info.
