removing gear knob

Right, so I was trying to get my gear knob off, tried twisting it anti clockwise and clockwise, no luck, long story short I cut the rubber grip off and am now stuck with the white thread thing on the top of the gear stick (will post pic below)

Just wondering if you guys have any suggestions on how to get th bigger off.

On the for sale section a fella is doing pool ball fittings for a fiver I think.

Alright guys I've tried heating it up and using a pair of pliers to twist it off but still no luck, it's just mashing the plastick thing up, any other ideas would be greatly appreciated

It's just plastic. Man up and break it off. Try not to damage the threads underneath.

looks like it's been epoxy bonded on.
could either burn/melt the plastic off
or freeze/shatter the plastic off (quickly with liquid nitro or CO2 or slowly in freezer)
or dremel cut a slot along the plastic to release it,
or wirebrush the plastic off
