Remote locking not working

Hi guys , I’ve just picked up a k12 micra for the wife. It’s been parked up for ages and the battery was totally flat. I’ve charged the battery, and replaced the battery in the key but I can’t unlock or lock the car with the remote. I’ve read somewhere about turning the ingition on and off 6 times within 10 seconds to get into programming mode, but no lights flash as expected.

Any help would be mega.

Do you only have the one key? We have two but one was dead as a remote when we got the car so they are prone to failure. I've ordered a cheap one from ebay in the hope that replacing the transmitter will get it working. I've been told both the transmitter and the inert chip need to be coded to the car but I'm not convinced on that, I'll let you know how I get on
