Recovering Door Cards

I have a blue inspiration 5dr and I have noticed that one member on here (paddymarsden i believe) has recovered the door cards with blue leatherette, this is something I wanted to do on mine as they are orange at the moment. I would really like to know the best way to go about this, do they need removing first, can you glue or staple the leatherette on?

I recovered a lot of door cards for kit cars....use spray contact adhesive works a treat. also a steamer if you have one to streach the corners round
