Hi I recently bought a mk2 1l k11. Anyway she's been running great up until last night when the engine management light came on. It started off flashing then went solid after a few minutes. As soon as it came on the engine sounded like it had dropped at least 1 cylinder maybe more. However on the drive back (breakdown cover only works if you have your phone on you.) i took it steady and nursed it home but the engine was making some moderately loud rattling and banging from the engine at first this was intermittent, followed by constant. However this stopped shortly before getting home however it was still not firing right.
the noise sounded like the tappets on steroids
Any suggestions greatly appreciated as I really want to fix her rather than send her to the metal graveyard.
p.s The only 2 changes yesterday were performance air filter installation and I fully topped up at a BP petrol station.
