problem with 1999 micra k11

well lads,
I have a problem with my 1999 micra k11.
The problem occurred while driving on the motorway.
Suddenly the car lost all power and would not start.
The car was recently serviced by myself as i do every year with new spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, oil filter and oil put into it.
I have checked the fuel pump, that's not the problem although there are no sparks from the plugs,
My father checked the distributor cap but he reckons that its grand.

My questions are:
- Does the entire distributor go in these engines?
- is it a hard job to do or will i be OK to tackle it myself?
- Hs this problem ever happened before?

pretty common chris, 2 bolts and pull it out basically

Distributor has packed up I would guess, common fault.
Exactly the same happened to me and the missus, driving along, car just stopped, and wouldn't start (!)
Distributor from the scrappy, and away you go.
I've got one here for a £15 note posted to you if you're stuck buddy.
