I would say don't drive it at all (especially not gaily ?) and also that this needs to be reported to Nissan because the failure occurred whilst driving. I have read most of the posts on this site regarding the K12 PS issue and I have so far only come across one other post where the PS possibly failed during driving as opposed to at ignition on. This person claimed that their wife nearly had a serious accident when her K12 PS failed. Unlike you though, no useful details given, so this could have been because she tried to drive it after an ignition on failure (as my wife did). Unfortunately, a lot of people posting on here about this issue have been quite vague, or didn't think to specify, about whether the PS failed during driving or at ignition on. But obviously this is a crucial detail. There was a tragic case in my area last Summer where a young lad was killed when his power steering failed suddenly whilst he was negotiating a bend. What effectively happens is that the steering wheel is snatched out of your hand. This happens because, unlike when you are driving without power steering assistance, you only have a light grip of the steering wheel. So the steering suddenly straightens by quite a considerable amount. Its not difficult to imagine how dangerous this could be for the driver, other road users and pedestrians. This happened to me once whilst I was driving a vehicle on a US freeway many years ago. There have been numerous fatalities from this type of failure but unfortunately it seems to take a few fatalities before the car companies do the right thing and issue a recall. I think that there is more than enough evidence on this site alone to justify an urgent vehicle recall. I am currently providing care for my seriously ill daughter so I have more than enough to be dealing with. Otherwise I think I would try to start some kind of action. If anyone reading this is interested in doing that, I would start by suggesting that the site owners contact everyone that has reported a K12 PS failure on this site in an effort to determine just how common K12 PS failures whilst driving are. The more cases like yours, the more pressure Nissan will be under to take action. For all we know, this issue may already have cost lives.
