Original washer not working

On my 'new' 89 micra someone has previously rigged up a bypass switch for the windscreen washer and separate wiring to and from the switch to the battery and pump, which works fine. Clearly something was wrong with the original set up, hence the bypass. I'd like to reinstate the original set up. Before I go digging, and spending money on a new wiper arm, does anyone know if there is a relay in the set up? Or is it wired straight to the pump, no doubt via a fuse. Cheers

Well it took a while but its fixed. In the end there was a short for the main power feed from the fuse box to the washer and wiper. I ran a bypass from the battery to the wiper motor, and the same to the washer with a inline fuse, and its sorted. At some point I'll fit a relay so it only works when the ignition is on, but it will do for now.
