hi, frank. is actually in side the spark plug housing. i have just recently service the car and change the vavle gasket changed. do they have to check and change the seal for the tube aswell a procedure? do the oil leak from the top or come from bottom of the plug housing? is there something they miss out i need the answer now. any information would be appreciated.thanks

how much does it cost for all the seals. the top and the bottom? is it nessary to change the seal when changing the valve gasket?

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but having this same problem.

Ordered a cam cover gasket thinking it'd have the spark plug seals on the cam cover gasket.

Now spark plug #1 is full of oil, are these gaskets I need to buy or can I use gasket goo? Anyone have these gaskets for sale? Part numbers if not?

You can get the gaskets, can't do goo wont last

the spark plug tube seals on the cover can only last afew numbers of being disturbed before getting too loose and start allowing crank vapour oil to leak into the tubes.

the tube seals are enclosed by this bonded plate inside the engine cover and was difficult to access without damaging the plate.

easiest solution was to just replace the engine cover from another that might have a fresher tube seal

Hi and sorry for digging up this old thread. I thought that's better than making a new one.
I just wanted to ask a couple of questions.
1: I like the last suggestions of building layers of tape. Is PTFE a good tape to use for that, where exactly would you apply the tape and how many mm would you build up?

2: If I was to get a replacement engine cover from breakers, what would I need to look out for to make sue the new one is in decent condition?

3: Is replacing the cover a simple job or are there any special instructions needed?(E.g., are there special torque setting, special sealants that need to go in between, etc?

4: If one was to try to replace the seals, would the process be the same as this?

Sorry frank2, what do you mean by double post?

Mine is leaking on the plug second from the right when looking from the front of the car (I think it is number 3).

First I had a problem a few weeks ago where it wouldnt start so I checked the plugs and that one was covers in oil. After cleaning (drying with rag), it fired up instantly. Now, I check it every few days and I usually find some sort of moisture on it, but can't be sure it is oil. The first time a few weeks ago was certainly oil though.

I've checked the fluid ands levels are fine and no bubbling of discolouring.

The end of the HT leads get wet with what looks like moisture, more than the plugs themselves, so yeah, it's the top half that's getting wet more than the bottom.

In any case, where would I put the tape, etc.?
Is it just on top of the thread for the plug? Is it where the HT leads sit in the cover?

the baffling under the lid of the cam cover is part of the crankcase oil/water separation system, so a blocked breather might force the condensation out through one of the plugtube seals ?

Thanks for all the advice Frank. I am quite a newbie with tinkering with the car so am not really following you fully. What would you recommend as a first, simple fix attempt?
I don't think I have the confidence yet to start taking the cover off, etc.

Sorry for the delay in replying and thanks for the advice frank.

Can anyone help with a list of what I need for this?
I have read that the stock scres used to hold the cam cover down are easily ruined and better replaced with nuts. If that is the case, can anyone tell me exactly what size and type I should get to replace it?

Will I need a torque wrench or anything like that to fit it back?

Will I need any form of sealant or will I need to replace and gaskets just because I took it off?

It's just that I use the car daily and don't want to be left without it because I didn't have the right tools to put it back together.

Hi guys

Thought I'd help since I have been in the same situation.

My Super S has 3 of 4 spark plug tubes with oil in them, bought 3 replacement rocker covers and installed them but all but one kept the problem, so i had enough..

with one rocker cover i turned it around and found those spark plug tube seals and stuck a flat end screw driver carefully to prize them out.. got all of them out except one, i had to butcher the seal into pieces to help removed it.. they were out! with no damage to the seal recess! (need to be careful) after that i cleaned it all, and i got some seals from nissan (ill update with the part number once i am home) some motor factors provide them with the kit cant remeber the name but i have 2 sets available if needed.. pm me if you want

anyway once cleaned the recess i got some sealent and lined it in with my fingers and placed the new seals in (the right way round, remember to document which way round they go as i did but luckily i had 2 more useless rocker covers to go back to) placed the seals in, left for dry until the next day for all 4 seals and added a new gasket around the rocker cover and installed it.. didnt drive the car or even start it until 2 days later and since then NO OIL ever comes into the spark plug holes..

Even though they are bonded in the recess, they can be prized out carefully and a thin layer of sealant will stick the new seals in no problem

I have been driving my Super S for a year now after replacing them and no problems at all

Hope this helps guys and girls as i know annoying that problem was.
