For the Almera we recommend a good 5w-40 synthetic for all year round use, if you are on a budget a 10w-40 semi can also be used... But I would go synthetic if you can as they are better in every way.
Have a look here, the likes of the Motul 8100 Xcess, Fuchs Titan Supersyn 5w-40 are ideal http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx changed every 10,000 miles or once a year, which ever comes first.
