number plate light, 1999 K11

I have changed the number plate light on my K11, but they are still not working. Also the rear windscreen wiper is not working, are the two connected, i.e, wiring runs through the same place etc.
Would appreciate any any ideas as I thought the number plate lights would be an easy fix.

There is a panel you can remove on the boot lid from the inside. If you remove this you should see the wiring for the number plate lights
