just wondering if anyone thinks that it would be worth whacking a turbo onto a single cam engine? or would that just be a pointless idea and overstress the engine?
Depends on the engine. It doesn't strictly matter if it's pushrod/SOHC/DOHC to determine if an engine's worth going forced induction on - some engines don't always loan themselves to be a good candidate for putting a turbo on. The main thing you would want to be concerned about is whether or not it's going to handle boost or not.
its a 5-me from an old 84 supra. 2.8l sohc, tend to blow head gaskets, however with correct torque specs (not toyota specs) are meant to be fine which its torqued at now.
just thinking now... a turbo will decrease compression right?? therefore putting less strain on the head...
I don't think the turbo decreases compression, typically when you install a turbo on a non-turbo engine if you want to run at least a moderate amount of boost you will decrease the compression. This is usually done by installing a thicker head gasket.
hahaha not worth it when i have a car thats got double the size engine capacity... neway i want to keep the micra for a daily.. cos its reliable and cheap and FUN!
