No tailgate lights?

Just been given a lovely little under used 1996 Micra Shape in red and looking to make a good home for it with us, however there are a few niggly things wrong with it that need sorting before it goes for its next MOT.

1. No lights work on the tail gate, ie. brake and number plate. Checked bulbs ok, no voltage between contacts. Main light clusters either side are fine.

2. Rear wiper won't move at all. I can hear clicking from the relay at the back but no motion or even straining.

Are these things likely to be related or separate? Where do I start?

its usually down to a break in the wire i think michael (near the hinge ?)
unless they share a common earth ?

hmm, ok thanks, am I better off fixing it or getting a new loom if that is the case?

Edit, thinking about the common earth thing, could that still apply even though the relay at the back is clicking? I was thinking that it should stop that too...

good point michael, you,re best to check with a meter for 12v feeds first eh
