nissan micra 1.5 dci smoking bad

hi guys i have just bought a 2004 nissan micra 1.5 dci with 85k on the clock its got a really bad smoking problem it will not rev really high ive just recoded the injectors because somebody had replaced 2 new ones but had not coded them so it was really lumpy now its smoother but is spewing grey smoke out ive also cleaned the egr valve as well help please

egr valve would be black smoke mate, possible fuel or turbo, i would possibly check the turbo for play on the shaft or damage

Sounds like limp home.mode if thers a fault the ecu put it into limp home mode limiting the revs to prevent damage

Ive been told today to check the woodruff key on the camshaft someone said they have
a tendancy to sheer off and the timing cocks up

Yeah they do mate the key is part of the pulley youll be able to tell by slackening the centre bolt on the cam pulley. If it spins freely the key has more than likely broken off

Finally got round to checking the woodrough key today on the camshaft pulley and its fine so im going to put a new timing belt on it for piece of mind because it looks like the original one but now im clueless to why the cars still smoking and why it wont rev above 3k

Diesel exhaust grey/white smoke often indicates valve/fuel timing issues, water contaminated fuel, engine coolant entering combustion cycle, insufficient fuel supply, blocked DPF, low combustion temperature i.e. EGR valve open, unburned oil entering the exhaust flow and last but not least a worn or flood damaged engine. When buying a 10-year-old scrap and parts project, the price is what you pay and value is what you get~ or perhaps not if beyond economic repair and you may find it profitable to do additional research; some 1.5dci smoke threads on MSC and additional tasters as follows to get you started?

We look forward to hearing an economically positive resolution and useful addition to MSC archive! Good luck.

Sorted it finally today i took the metal intake pipe from the egr off and it was solid with black soot/carbon so cleaned it all out and the car is 100 % now
