New gearbox time?

Hi all

Recently bought my K11 Super S and it runs great with the exception of a rather noisy gearbox. I did buy it knowing the box was whining a bit - as a result it was a cheap purchase.

However since owning it I have noticed a rattling sound which seems to come from below the gearstick and is noticeable only in 1st and 2nd gear, after which everything seems normal.

Does the car need a new box to cure both noises or could it be something simpler?

Sorry if this has been asked before, any advice appreciated.

have you checked the oil level simon ?

and the rattling under the gear stick is more than likely the heat shield

check for low gearbox oil level, loose heatshields, snapped gearstick centering spring rattling against shields and loose worn gear selector bushes.

had a quick look but cant see a gearbox dipstick (is there supposed to be one?). tried looking underneath car but needs to go on a ramp really as I couldnt see much by jacking it up slightly.....
