This was looking at her best.
Currently after an incident involving a curb.
IMG00064.jpg

My lovely wheels got ruined.

Just bought myself some daweoo matiz front legs for it and i'm on the look out for corsa rear shocks.

Modifications.
1.3 camshafts.
ga16 throttle body.
Frank modified exhaust manifold and knocked through cat.
rev limiter removed.
Stripped interior.
Janspeed backbox.
Lowered with an angle grinder.

Thats it.

another dangerous concoction of performance modifications with cut springs

although cut springs are perfectly ok for asthetic purposes, just remember that they only provide a lowered ride height and do not enable you to corner at high speed.

Got any proof of this?
I would have thought the lowering of ride height and increase in spring rate would enable you to corner at high(er) speed...

Admittedly I've only cut springs in one of my cars and it was never meant to go fast (1171cc auto ftw) but I disagree entirely with statements that say cutting springs is dangerous. Of course it CAN be dangerous, but so can any modification if not done properly.

My cut-spring cruiser :D

cheers rudy, finally someone actually sees my point, sometimes i think micra forums are filled with complete idiots!!

are you serious? this has nothing to do with the spring being cut, but with the spring being too short and soft!

An aftermarket (non-cut) or even a standard spring if old enough + stuffed shock + big bump + whatever can cause bottoming out.

I'm very aware of the issues with cut springs which is why, as i said in my first post i have just bought a matiz setup, which helpfully arrived today.
The front end on facelifts needs a bit of work to get it looking like that.
I cut out all the rubbish from the bottom grille.
Blacked the inside of the headlights and removed the grille centres from the moustache grilles. (Seen in the later pictures.)

The wheels where made by frank, and the damaged one has been replaced i'm just waiting until i have some money for good quality tyres.

Heres some progression pictures for you.

How she was when i first bought her back in 2009.

Then i got some cheap alloys from a friend (Of a SEAT!)

DSC00038.jpg

They where horrible so they went away and back came the steels.

DSC00123.jpg

Then some stripping commenced.

DSC00135.jpg

First attempt at blacking the headlights. Looked ok not great.

DSC00013.jpg

DSC00010.jpg

Changed the camshafts.

DSC00083.jpg

Steels went white.

DSC00090-1.jpg

Fianlly i got brave and lowered it!

Went too see frank.

Came home with these.

DSCF4398.jpg

Uneven lowering made the front too high and made the baby jesus cry.
Sorted that.

Destroyed a clutch with my revving happiness.

Then i had a little spin, which ruined the nice wheels and all my tyres.

Snapped a gearbox mount off the gearbox.
IMG00043.jpg

Fixed that.

Parked next to a standard one in asda.

that janspeed doesn't look like it has much life left in the weld...

judging by the clutch, the ****ed gearbox and the accident destroying the wheel and tyre, you must drive like a tool......that is all

Honestly i don't drive like a "tool".
The wheels i admit i was driving too fast on a wet road that i thought i knew, it was empty and no one was hurt.
The gearbox snapped pulling away very slowly, the mount was clearly cross threaded inside and the clutch had previously been replaced by a monkey of a mechanic.
The clutch itself appears too have been faulty.
Only one side failed.
The janspeed is a little patched up but it was cheap and i had an urge haha.

Frank how about a how to guide with some pics?
I'm curious as to how you align them straight again before welding.
