My engine has developed a new, unkindly noise :(

Hi,
I've had my K11 almost two years now and I've had my fair share of problems and have spent too much money, in my eyes, on it. Now I have a problem which I can't quite work out..

So, got up to go to work last Saturday, felt confident in it starting up this weekend, as last weekend my battery had died! Anyway, starts up the car, and there it is.. a sound like metal trailing along the floor, (even though the car is sat still). I revved a little, the noise stopped, but then it came back again, and won't go away!
At first it was only when the car was sat still, but then the noise continued as I drove around. It sounds like I have something trailing along the floor from the car, but it obviously isn't that.

Timing chains? Well I thought it could have been those on the way out, but when you listen closely to the running engine, you can hear them running fine, and the "trailing metal" noise continues. It has never done this before and now it does it every day.

Has anybody had this experience, or have any idea what it could be?

I have the same kind of noise/problem, but not as loud as yours, I'd say the same as above, heat shield.

Solved! Exhaust manifold had rusted and come loose. Something simple and cheap for a change!
