My Coilpack vs The Mrs' Pre-Coilpack

So I've got a Y reg coilpack and she's got an R reg pre-coilpack facelift. Hers is immaculate with 26,000 miles on and inherited from an older family member who's given up driving. Mine is the village bike with 5 owners and 80,000 miles.

Now hers should have 53hp from stock and mine should have 60hp. Why then is mine painfully slow and hers really nippy? It's the acceleration that's the issue. Hers goes and keeps going and mine is terribly slow off the line, especially when it's cold. I understand the age difference and hence the difference in condition but mine is pretty well looked after considering it's had 5 owners and is freshly serviced. What gives? Did they change the gearing at all for the coilpacks?

I've noticed the pre-coilpack facelifts to be/feel quicker than the coilpack ones too, i've never really been sure why though. I also had a pre-facelift non-coilpack too and that felt like it pulled better than the both of the others, and they were all CG10's

Fuel filter and gearbox oil make a difference if they've not been changed. Grade of engine oil and added weight i.e. aircon, power steering, even the amount of fuel I used to find :p

The only difference is that mine is freshly serviced and hers isn't, and that hers has eleccy windows and no power steering and I have power steering and no eleccy windows

Always known my facelift cg10s to be faster then my pre faceys, maybe you've a coil on the way out also?

Any way to test for a dodgy coil? Would it make a difference if they'd been fractured too?

a dodgy coil will normally flag up a faultcode bonner :) and praps the coilpack 1.0 has a higher diff eh ?

Yeah I did wonder whether it was gearing or the diff or something. I'll have to pick up a code reader and see if it pulls anything up

Hmm, definitely what frank said, haha, its worth checking plug condition, I know facelift 1.0 98/99 has a slight difference to ratio I believe with gearbox, im not sure what 2000+ would be like though, these micras have so much to them lmao!

Went to the scrap yard today (Albert Looms in Derby - Micra goldmine) and I figured it out when I saw a coilpack and a pre-facelift parked together. It's the wheels! Pre-faceys have 13s and mine has 14"s. Increasing the wheel size would be the same as altering the final drive ratio wouldn't it? I bet that combined with all the other slight differences would be what's causing it

there is very little difference on o/d of the 155/70/13, and 165/60/14 tyres tho eh

Bigger wheels = higher rolling and start up resistance = lower mpg and less performance.
So the tyre wallahs inform me, makes sense if you think about it,
